What to know, how to begin, and how to feel at home in your body
If you’ve been curious about hot yoga or contrast therapy but aren’t quite sure where to start, you’re in the right place. At SOL Yoga Niagara, we believe wellness should feel welcoming, inclusive, and accessible to every body. Whether you’re brand new to movement or returning after time away, this guide will help you step in with confidence.

What Is Hot Yoga?

Hot yoga is a style of yoga practised in a heated room, typically ranging from 30–40°C. The warmth helps to:
Increase flexibility
Improve circulation
Support detoxification through sweat
Encourage deeper connection to breath and body
At SOL Yoga, our hot classes are designed to meet you where you are. You do not need to be flexible, experienced, or “in shape” to begin. You simply need to show up.
Benefits of Hot Yoga for Beginners
Starting something new can feel intimidating, but hot yoga offers powerful benefits, even from your very first class:
Builds strength and mobility at your own pace
Supports stress relief and nervous system regulation
Encourages mindfulness and present-moment awareness
Creates a sense of accomplishment and confidence
Most importantly, it creates space for you to reconnect with yourself without judgement.
What Is Contrast Therapy?

Contrast therapy involves alternating between heat (like an infrared sauna) and cold (such as a cold plunge). This practice has been used for centuries to support recovery and overall wellness.
Benefits of Contrast Therapy:
Reduces inflammation and muscle soreness
Boosts circulation and immune function
Supports mental clarity and resilience
Enhances recovery after workouts or yoga
At SOL Yoga Niagara, contrast therapy is a powerful complement to your movement practice, helping you feel both energized and deeply restored.
How to Start Hot Yoga (Beginner Tips)
1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Drink plenty of water before and after class. Electrolytes can also help support hydration.
2. Eat Light
Have a small meal 1–2 hours before class. Avoid heavy foods right before.
3. Dress Comfortably
Wear breathable, moisture-wicking clothing. You will sweat, and that’s part of the experience.
4. Bring the Essentials
Yoga mat
Towel
Water bottle
5. Go at Your Own Pace
Rest when you need to. Child’s pose is always an option. Listening to your body is the practice.
How to Begin Contrast Therapy Safely
If you’re new to sauna and cold exposure, start slow:
Begin with 5–10 minutes in the sauna
Follow with a short cold exposure (30 seconds to 2 minutes)
Repeat for 2–3 rounds if it feels good
Always listen to your body. There is no “right” way, only what feels supportive for you.
